Getting To Know Each Other A Little Better

Sportsbet Recruitment Process

Throughout our recruitment process, you’ll get a real insight into the type of work you’ll be doing here at Sportsbet and our culture. If you haven’t already, click here to see what current job opportunities are available. If you’ve already found a role that interests, you all you need to do is apply and complete our online application form.  Be sure to update your resume to include your latest work. Although its not essential, a tailored CV approach to a specific job or Sportsbet more generally is always encouraged.  It’s the little things that make a big first impression. Fear not though, because if you haven’t found the perfect role for you just yet, but you just know that Sportsbet is the place to be, then we’d love you to join our talent community where we will share some of the cool things from time to time that we are doing and reach out if a role comes up that you might be interested in.

Phone screen

Our mission in the talent team is to identify the best talent and to create an outstanding candidate experience for you. One element to help achieve this, is to strive to review EVERY application. That’s right, you can rest assured that effort you put into tailor making your resume won’t go to waste.  If we believe you could be a perfect fit for the position, a recruiter from the SB talent team will give you a call to discuss your experience further. Any questions you have will be able to be answered here. We also extend a chance to join our talent community if you could be an awesome fit for our culture but it is a case of just not the right role right now.

If this phone screen (or should we say, chin wag) goes well, we will arrange for you to come and meet the hiring manager over an interview or ask you to complete an assessment, depending on the type of role you have applied for.

Here, you will have the opportunity to meet your possibly ‘new boss’ and hear more about the cool stuff the team are working on and whether you think the position is the right fit for you!  They will also have some questions for you, so get researching all things Sportsbet but most importantly, be yourself! We know interviews can be daunting, but we want you to have an awesome interview experience so relax, and let’s get to know each other. In the event there is no match right now, don’t worry - we will connect with you and offer the chance to join our talent community and hopefully there will be a chance to join in another similar role in the future!

Background checks

Should you make a long lasting and amazing impression on us and vice versa, the hiring manager will inform the talent team to progress your application to the final stage – background checks. You will receive an email from our third-party provider with a link that will allow you to complete and upload all your identification and documentation.

Job offer

Now for the exciting part… THE OFFER!!!  We’ve clearly been very impressed and couldn’t see ourselves without you. On the condition your working rights and background check is good to go, you will receive a phone call from your Talent Partner with the awesome news. Our goal is to get you the paperwork within 48 hours, which outlines all the finer details around your employment with us and how we are going to make this your best job yet!

1:  What if there is no job advertised that I want to apply for, but I really want to work at Sportsbet?

We have an “expression of interest” functionality on our careers site home page that allows talented people like yourselves to submit their CV for future roles.  We have our Talent team reviewing resumes on the daily, so we will keep in mind your expression of interest and see if we have a role that fits your experience and interests. As soon as there is something suitable, we will give you a call. In the meantime, though, you know you best, so don’t hesitate to continue to keep an eye out on our current vacancies [insert hyperlink here].
2:  Do I need a cover letter with my application?

When it comes to cover letters, we will leave that decision up to you! In short, they aren’t required to progress, however we are on the lookout for individuals who do want to go the extra mile as we are a team of achievers here! If you do decide to include a cover letter as you feel it will strengthen your application, be sure to be specific and adapt it to the job you’re applying for. Tell us what makes you unique (we love unique), how you made an impact in your last role and use examples. Highlight your passion to work at SB and how your experience will shine in the position if you are successful, feel free to also add some excitement through sharing a bit about how you connect with sport – whatever floats your boat!

3:  Any tips for preparing an application?

Your resume is your opportunity to tell us all about your career journey. From achievements and successes to what your goals are in your next role, a strong CV should show the skills and experience you have acquired as well as a flavour of the person you are. Things that we find are important to stand out and make a great first impression:

  • Presentation – a well formatted and clear resume layout is key to catching our eye.  Simple to read headings and sections with key information is the goal. It doesn’t have to be long, 1-2 pages max.

  • Knowledge – have a read over the position description and match up your previous skills and experience you have gained that is relevant to the job. Having your most recent job at the top is always better and really highlight your accomplishments.

  • Spelling and grammar – this will show us whether you have the right communication skills and attention to detail for the job.  Having a family member or friend do a quick read over before you submit is always helpful.

  • Your details – you may see this as a no brainer, but trust us, it’s been done before. Ensure you include your name and contact details

4:  What do I do if I get offered an interview?

Firstly, take notes whilst doing your research and prep.  Under pressure in an interview setting, it’s easy to forget stuff, so having some simple notes with you if you’d find helpful is a great memory jog and can help you stay on track.  Secondly, think of examples in your work and personal life where you have done great things that relate to the role that you are interviewing for. Not only is this great self-reflection (and a chance to pat yourself on the back) but will help bring things to the front of your mind so that they are fresh! Thirdly practice. Practice your responses to the famous questions “what is your interest in this role” “why do you want to work for Sportsbet and why do you think you will be a good fit”. This doesn’t mean having scripted responses as it’s important to be you and natural, but it can help build your confidence. Last helpful tip, double check to make sure you have all the details of your interview like the location, date and time. If something is missing, reach out to your Talent Partner, we are here to help you kick some goals in your career.
5:  What should I wear to an interview?

Unlike the button-up shirt work environment you may have experienced in the past, dress code at Sportsbet is smart but casual. Our only request is that you don’t dress in a way that would disappoint your parents. So please, leave that three-piece suit or ball gown at home, even though it is an interview, we want you to feel comfortable!
6:  I applied for a role and haven’t heard anything back yet. Does that mean I am unsuccessful?

You will always be able to login to your profile to check the status of your application, but in any event, we will contact you either way to update you on your outcome (by either phone or email). Be sure to see when the job ad is due to close as if it hasn’t closed yet, we are more than likely waiting until all applications come through before progressing.
7:  What type of employee benefits do you offer?

Where do we start! When you join our SB family, you will have access to a range of benefits. Sportsbet's purpose is to bring excitement to life and we are all about backing each other so, to help you get your game on, we've put our money where our mouth is when it comes to valuing our people. From 6 months paid parental leave to flexible working arrangements, we are positive there will be something for you. Find out more here.

If you could go to any sporting event in the world, what would it be and why?

I am a mad F1 fan. If I had to pick only one race it would have to be Baku, Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

With the longest straight on the calendar and some unbelievable corners Azerbaijan is the race for me.

If you could go to any sporting event in the world, what would it be and why?

I am quite the tennis lover, so if the opportunity ever presented itself to go to Wimbledon I wouldn’t say no!

However, I still feel like our home town here in Melbourne holds the best sporting events with the AFL grand final and Melbourne Cup, both of which I would be at!

If you could go to any sporting event in the world, what would it be and why?

With over 15 years’  Talent acquisition experience across global markets, I am excited to be joining Sportsbet and to be contributing to the creation of Sportsbet’s new leading edge talent solution.  As a winter sports fan, watching the New York Rangers in Maddison Square Garden, in -5 with a soda and hotdog in my hand might just be my ultimate sporting experience.

If you could go to any sporting event in the world, what would it be and why?

If I could travel to any sporting event in the world it would have to be a tossup between England winning the World Cup or Westham winning the Champions League.

(Unfortunately, I doubt I’ll witness either in my lifetime)

If you could go to any sporting event in the world, what would it be and why?

Although I'm a Chelsea fan through and through, one day I hope to travel to Barcelona and see them take on Madrid at the Camp Nou or the Old Firm Derby in Scotland.

For now, I will be more than satisfied to see England win the Ashes over here.

If you could go to any sporting event in the world, what would it be and why?

I will preface my response with the fact that I love food and if able, I’ll find a way to include food in my response! With this in mind if I could go to any sporting event in the world it would have to be the Coopers Hill Cheese Rolling and Wake event, in Gloucestershire England. If you aren’t familiar this is an extreme sport where individuals run at pace down a steep hill, rolling a large wheel of cheese, and I’d just love to see it in action!
