We don’t just support diversity – we celebrate it! This is a workplace where you can thrive and feel safe to bring your whole authentic self to work.
When you join Sportsbet, it doesn’t take long to realise we’re a diverse bunch here. Our 1000+ team members come from all over the world and all walks of life.
This amazing mix of cultures, lifestyles and life experiences gives us the opportunity to learn more about each other and the world around us. And even become advocates!
For this reason, we take diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) very seriously at Sportsbet. Not only do we support diversity – we celebrate it!
Every day, we strive to build a workplace where you can thrive and feel safe to bring your whole authentic self to work.
Our team members are diverse people who come together with or for a common purpose – and are supported by Sportsbet through policy, education and support.
Is there a group you want to be a part of? Connect with them in person, online via Slack or attend an event they’re running. There’s something for everyone!
As we’re a small DE&I team, we often rely on external people and businesses to support our initiatives. These people are leaders in the DE&I space through their lived and work experiences. They offer us education, advocacy platforms and best practice to inform our policies and behaviours.
Here are just some of the people who help bring DE&I to life at Sportsbet.
Michelle Redfern
Michelle is a globally recognised gender equality, diversity and inclusion consultant. She advises the business and sporting sectors on DE&I strategy development and implementation, and works with women leaders to advance their careers. Michelle has been recognised as one of Australia's Top 100 Women of Influence and won awards for her contribution to women advancement.
Gemma Saunders
Workplace Edit founder & lead consultant of the Becoming Better Together Collective.
Gemma has led Workplace Edit - an inclusive workplace experience consultancy - since 2019 and worked with around 30 iconic brands, including Sportsbet. Gemma is proudly queer, is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has been listed in HRD's hotlist. She has been a finalist at the LGBTI Awards, and on the board of Wear It Purple and Minus18.
The Becoming Better Together Collective
The Becoming Better Together Collective is led by Shantelle Thompson, Lilian Kikuvi and Gemma Saunders. The Collective helps organisations create cultures of belonging and respect. They do this by weaving the collective practices of their First Nations, African, and queer cultural influences and through the ancient principles of storytelling and conversation.
We never rest on our laurels at Sportsbet, as we know there’s always more to learn and enhance. So we measure everything we do to see what’s working and where we can improve.
This aligns with the aims of Flutter’s Positive Impact Plan, focusing on how we can all Work Better.
Twice a year, we ask team members about their experience of working here through the MySay Survey. In particular, we ask questions about:
These responses help us gauge how team members are feeling and show us where we need to improve our performance.
We’re proud of our most recent scores in December 2022 which told us that:
But we can always do better!
Women remain seriously under-represented in Fortune 500 companies, and that drops further for women from marginalised communities.
In line with Flutter’s global DE&I strategy, Sportsbet is always working to remove the barriers that prevent women rising to the top in business and create fair opportunities for all.
Our Women of Sportsbet communities
We have a range of engaging and empowering communities for those who identify as women at Sportsbet.
Women in Tech
The Women In Tech community represents Sportsbet women who work in technology capabilities – a typically under-represented remit. It brings together team members from Commercial Analytics, Customer Experience Delivery, Cyber Security, Data Platforms, Data Science, FanDuel, Planning & Architecture, Operations (Robotics Automation Process team) and Tech Platforms.
This community is a sustainable network for women that fosters the empowerment of each woman, advances our skills and careers, and changes our experience through challenging the status quo. We do this through events, trainings or even coffee catch ups that allow us to share our personal experiences with each other.
Women in Finance & Analytics
The Extension group is about elevating and extending ourselves and each other to explore what we’re capable of in our lives and careers. It’s a space of no judgment, where everyone is encouraged to contribute to the conversation, and share ideas, thoughts and experiences.
It’s an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the great work we’re doing and bring together leading voices from across Sportsbet to discuss and learn about topics such as building your personal brand.
Ultimately, it’s a community that allows us to champion women at Sportsbet, shape great connections, and continue to drive change in diversity and inclusion.
Lean In: Growth
Our mission is to create a safe space where females in the Growth department can help each other grow and achieve ambitions by openly sharing learnings and experiences. We discuss themes such as:
At Sportsbet, we champion the acceptance and visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and intersex in making our workplace a safe space for all, regardless of sexual preference.
We also know that acceptance of our LGBTQIA+ global team members might vary, depending on where they live in the world. So we align with Flutter’s commitment to:
The Sportsbet Queer Squad is Sportsbet's pride network. It’s open to anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+ within the Sportsbet community, as well allies.
An ally is someone who may not identify as LGBTQIA+ but stands with and supports them. You might see team members around the office wearing a Sportsbet ‘Ally’ shirt as a public display of their support.
The Queer Squad works to create a safe space for people in the LGBTQIA+ community to express themselves and be their authentic self in the workplace. The group achieves this by:
Creating an inclusive workplace for all abilities
People experience and interact with the world in many different ways. Across the world, 1 billion people have a long-term disability. Others have a short-term disability, such as an injury. A disability can impact your vision, hearing, speech, movement or cognitive ability.
At Sportsbet, we’re committed to ensuring every team member can work comfortably and feels they belong. To achieve this, we’re always exploring ways to improve accessibility.
Focusing on accessibility enables us to identify and remove any barriers that prevent people with a disability accessing the same opportunities as everyone else.
Whether it’s improving our physical office or digital workplace, or adapting our ways of working, making Sportsbet a more inclusive space is a key focus for us.
Access requirements
Whether you’re connecting with teammates in person or over Zoom, you should be able to access everything you need.
If have you any accessibility requirements or concerns, your department HR Business Partner or people leader will help get you what you need.
As endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, Sportsbet is excited to develop our first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. This plan formalises our journey and commitment towards aiding Reconciliation in Australia.
At Sportsbet, we celebrate what makes you uniquely you. We encourage all employees to share their culture through educational catchups with food and entertainment.
We are also part of a global organisation of 19,000 colleagues with a presence in more than 100 countries. This wide range of viewpoints, and personal and professional experiences, can provide fresh perspectives and inspire us all to think differently.
We align with Flutter in our commitment to creating a truly anti-racist workplace, and building a broader knowledge and understanding of different cultures and backgrounds to support every team member, regardless of nationality, faith, religion, ethnicity or race.
Cultural events
We love to celebrate and learn more about other cultures. Just last year, we celebrated Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights.
The event was coordinated by some of our Indian team members, who were gracious enough to educate us on this festival.
Cultural leave swap
Our Cultural Leave Swap Policy allows eligible team members to substitute holidays for other culturally significant events that might not be recognised with a gazetted public holiday in Australia.
Reconciliation Action Plan
Sportsbet is at the very start of our Reconciliation journey, so we look forward to a year of education for our team members.
This will be followed by years of truly embedding Reconciliation into everything we do.
