About The Role
Reporting into the Head of Strategic Communication & Reputation, this role sits at the centre of how Sportsbet manages its reputation in real time, serving as a first point of contact for media enquiries, supporting responses on complex issues, and helping leadership communicate clearly under scrutiny. It plays a critical role in protecting our brand by translating strategy into action, particularly across high-profile or sensitive matters.
This is a fast-paced, high-exposure role suited to someone who is proactive, commercially aware, and hungry to learn. You will work closely with Corporate Affairs, Legal and senior stakeholders to ensure our messaging is clear, accurate and defensible, often in situations where information is incomplete and timeframes are tight. You’ll bring your enthusiasm for tapping into new and emerging technologies to support you in every day of your new role.
Responsibilities Include:
- Act as a key contact for media enquiries on corporate, regulatory and reputation issues, owning responses end-to-end and proactively identifying and managing reputation risk in real time
- Draft statements, Q&As and briefing materials at pace, often in response to evolving situations
- Work with Legal, Policy and leadership to ensure messaging aligns with business and regulatory context
- Identify media opportunities and risks, and advise on the most effective response approach
- Support priority corporate communications that strengthen Sportsbet’s external position (e.g. regulatory engagement, submissions, key announcements) as well as contribute to our community investments in a credible way
- Partner with internal communications and our social media teams to ensure key external issues and company positions are clearly communicated to employees
This role will ideally be based in Sydney, but open to Melbourne candidates.
About You
While we are big on development and offer on the job training, we want to set you up for success. Along with a great attitude, it would be ideal that you have:
- Ideally 3–6 years’ experience in journalism, media, or corporate communications role
- Strong understanding of how news works and what constitutes a story
- Experience working on complex or sensitive issues (e.g. regulatory, legal or public interest matters)
- Sound judgement, knows when to act, escalate or hold
- Strong written communication capability, able to produce clear, accurate and externally-facing material at pace
The Perks
We work hard and play hard, so along with a competitive salary and generous performance-based bonus for permanent staff members, here’s some of our other perks:
- 25 days annual leave (that’s right, an additional week’s leave!)
- Hybrid working policy (Monday and Friday from home) and a $1,050 home office allowance for new starters.
- Industry leading Parental Leave support program with 26 weeks paid leave for Primary Carers and no wait time. We also have a progressive return to work benefit for your first 6 months back: come back for 3 days, get paid for 4; come back for 4 days, get paid for 5.
